Dungeons Dragons Spellbook Cards Magic Items DD Accessory Gale Force Nine 9780786966707 Books Reviews

  • These are high-quality, durable laminated cards, and explain each magic item clearly so you don't have to refer to the Dungeon Master's Guide or print out your own cards on paper.

My only complaint is the variety of pictures. Most of the items have a picture of the item on the back of each card. However, since not every magic item in the DMG has a picture, they had to come up with some "miscellaneous" or placeholder pictures for some of them. Although this is unavoidable, I wish they would've been a bit more consistent with their depictions. For example, one of the robe items shows a picture of a suit of armor on the back. Although the cloak of protection, for example, has a unique picture all its own, I would have rather they had put its picture on the robe's card so that it at least looked like a robe. Many of the others just show a miscellaneous picture of a book with a wand and gems on it when they could've just duplicated one of the other wands, or books, or whatever the specific item was.

Like I said, most of the items have a picture depicted perfectly, but it just seems lame that some of the items are just seen as less important than the other items because they just have a throwaway picture associated with them.
  • The good, is that these are useful cards describing the magic items gettin the DMG using the official art from that book.

The bad, these cards depict ONLY the art in the DMG and nothing else. I was disappointed to find that items without existing art were given a generic image.
So all the potions look the same, and many other items share the same image as one another. There should have been some mention of this.

Oh and the tuck box fell apart in shipping.

Fortunately there are other products that are already available that provide cards with unique art for each item. I will be combining those cards with these to have q more complete collection.
  • It is complete bullpoo that they are selling these cards without a unique picture for each item.
  • I enjoy the fact that they have art on the back of the cards alot infact new and not found in the magic item sections of the DM guide I gave them 3🌟 for that, the only reason I'm not giving 4 or 5 is because they cheap out on some of the magic items some armors they show their cool designs while others they use a generic shield and armor, and use that design to show a shield, for the ion stones they use the same generic ionstone cluster accross the board, and there are a few that made me think... Wow now your just being lazy for instance there are these magic gloves that the image is just of a time, a scroll, a wand, and some gems... I'm like... Really? Especially when they say on the package "with game statistics on one side and Evocative art on the other" it's not Evocative if your using the same image over and over... At least put a similar object described on the back, it's not like you don't have some magic glove design, because you do...
  • Nearly a quarter of these have generic, often nonsensical artwork. Five editions and hundreds of books to draw art from, they used placeholders for any art not in the 5e DMG. Except the Deck of Many Things, which has awesome art in the DMG but isn’t included. This product is a real disappointment.
  • I was bummed at first when some of the cards had generic images, however I realized shortly that the reason was that the items are not pictured in the DMG so they had nothing to go on. The cards are sturdy and easy to read and quite handy! I highly recommend it for DM's to hand out to players so they are not constantly looking the item up in the DMG or taking up tons of space on their character sheet for the items info.
  • I was very excited to get this, but that quickly became disappointment. For a company that hires as many artists as a comic publisher like Marvel, they really phoned it in with these cards. There are over 50 cards that the art is the same. Sword of Vengeance has same stock art as Weapon +1. Robe of Scintillating colors is a picture of armor (same as Ethereal Armor). Only one or two potions and oils are original art, while every other is stock picture of a satchel of potions. Even rings of elemental control are the same picture for every element. I am so disappointed in WOTC. So little effort was put into this product
  • These are cool for people who like tangible items on the table. I wish they had put more effort into the art, but otherwise they do the job. I wouldn't get these if you are looking for cool or unique gaming accessories, there are probably much better options for less money, but they are better than nothing for those who want a representation of (most of) the item.
